ICYMI – Forbes: “Maggie Hassan Presses VA Official On Ensuring Access To Care For Veterans In Rural Communities”

WASHINGTON – In case you missed it, U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan pushed VA officials during a Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearing last week to ensure that veterans in rural communities can access the health care that they need as it enters new community care contracts. Because VA medical centers can be hours away from veterans living in rural areas, many rely on community care – receiving health care from local providers outside of the VA system. Senator Hassan pressed VA officials to ensure that as the next generation of community care contracts come online, veterans don’t lose access to their preferred community care doctor.

Senator Hassan is committed to making sure veterans throughout New Hampshire and across the country can get the care that they need, no matter where they live. In addition to advocating for community care options, Senator Hassan has repeatedly pushed the VA on the need for a full-service VA hospital in New Hampshire and spoken out against efforts to weaken the VA. Senator Hassan has also led on bipartisan legislation to improve the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) health care scheduling process so that veterans can easily schedule multiple visits at once through one phone call or online.
