Senator Hassan Marks First Day of Child Tax Credit Payments

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement as families in New Hampshire and across the country begin to see the benefits of the expanded child tax credit starting today. Granite Staters can check their eligibility for the child tax credit payments here, and any Granite Stater who is eligible but has not previously filed their 2019 or 2020 tax return can sign up to receive their tax credit here.

“Starting today, many Granite State families will begin receiving a tax credit directly into their bank accounts, helping them to thrive,” Senator Hassan said. “The expansion of the child tax credit in the American Rescue Plan is a critical investment in our families that will help improve children’s well-being and set them up for future success. I urge Granite States to check to see if they are eligible to receive these credits, and I’ll keep working to provide additional support to families, including by pushing to expand this tax credit.”

On Monday, Senator Hassan held a virtual discussion with New Hampshire parents and community leaders to discuss how the child tax credit will help children and families. The American Rescue Plan, which Senator Hassan helped pass into law, increases the child tax credit to $3,000 (or $3,600 for children under the age of six). Earlier this year, Senator Hassan also joined Senator Shaheen in announcing $19 million in child care funding for New Hampshire through the December COVID-19 relief package that they helped negotiate and pass into law.
