Senator Hassan on GOP Plan to Raise Health Care Premiums as Part of Tax Bill

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement on Washington Republicans’ plans to include a repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate as part of their tax bill:

“It was bad enough that the Republican tax plan would mean a tax increase for millions of middle class families and property taxpayers, but now Washington Republicans are also threatening to drive up the cost of health insurance at the same time. The Trump Administration’s sabotage attempts are already raising health care premiums and squeezing hard-working people in New Hampshire and across the country, and this partisan plan would cause health care premiums to rise an additional 10 percent a year in the individual market – all to give tax breaks to corporate special interests and the wealthiest few. This isn’t tax reform, and it’s not what the American people sent us here to do. I will continue standing with the millions of people who have repeatedly stood up over the past months to defeat these partisan efforts that would raise health care premiums and take away coverage from millions of Americans.”
