NH Delegation Announces More than $6.8 Million in Federal Funding to Conserve Merrimack River Watershed

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced that the Merrimack River Watershed Council will receive $6,857,745 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Regional Conservation Partnership Program. The funding will allow the Council to protect source water areas along the Merrimack River watershed, revitalize habitats for vulnerable fish and wildlife species and boost climate resilience. As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Shaheen has historically supported funding for the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Senators Hassan, Collins Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Train More Doctors in Substance Use Disorder Recovery & Prevention

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Susan Collins (R-ME), both members of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, reintroduced the bipartisan Opioid Workforce Act to support hospitals in hiring and training doctors in addiction medicine, addiction psychiatry, and pain management. The bipartisan legislation would create 1,000 new medical residency positions focused on addiction medicine at teaching hospitals in New Hampshire, Maine, and across the country. Each hospital can have up to 25 positions through the legislation.

Following Push from Senator Hassan, Biden Administration Expands Access to Medication-Assisted Treatment

WASHINGTON – Today, the Biden administration announced that it is removing some requirements that limited health care providers’ ability to prescribe buprenorphine, a critical medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorder. Senator Hassan has led the bipartisan push in Congress to eliminate a waiver for prescribing buprenorphine. Today’s announcement removes some of the most burdensome requirements associated with getting the waiver.
