NH Delegation Announces More than $2 Million in DOJ Grants to Combat Child Sex Trafficking
(Manchester, NH) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee that funds the Department of Justice (DOJ), announced with U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) that the University of New Hampshire (UNH) will receive $2,012,577 to fund three studies to combat child sex trafficking. Specifically, these studies will focus on improving law enforcement’s response to domestic child sex trafficking, assess the effectiveness of support programs for child survivors of sex trafficking and help law enforcement and policymakers better understand and respond to cyber abuse, such as sextortion, and cyber-stalking.

Senate Passes Cornyn, Hassan’s Jenna Quinn Law to Prevent Child Abuse
WASHINGTON- U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) released the following statements after the Senate passed the Jenna Quinn Law last night, which would allow current grant funds to be used to train and educate students, teachers, caregivers, and other adults who work with children in a professional or volunteer capacity on how to prevent, recognize, and report child sexual abuse. The bill is named for Jenna Quinn, a Texan and child abuse survivor, and is modeled after successful reforms passed in Texas.

NH Delegation Announces More Than $1.8 Million in CARES Act Funding to Support Affordable Housing for Granite Staters
(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced $1,827,334 in funding through the CARES Act to support affordable housing for Granite Staters during the COVID-19 crisis. Specifically, funding was distributed to the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Housing Choice Voucher Program, which is used to help low-income, disabled and elderly people afford safe and decent housing in the private market.

NH Delegation Announces More Than $2.1 Million for Hudson & Bedford Fire Departments to Recruit & Train Firefighters
(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced with U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $2,170,180 in federal funding to the Hudson and Bedford Fire Departments to recruit and train new firefighters. Specifically, the funding was awarded through the agency’s Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) program, which provides grants directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities. Hudson will receive $1,098,456 and Bedford will get $1,071,724 in SAFER grant funding, which will allow the departments to hire four new firefighters each.

Shaheen Leads NH Delegation Letter to NBRC Federal Co-Chairman Raising Concerns with Commission’s Failure to Award Grants to Coos or Carroll County-Based Projects
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) led a letter yesterday on behalf of New Hampshire’s congressional delegation to Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) Federal Co-Chairman Harold Parker, raising concerns that the latest round of funding did not include a single grant awardee from Coos or Carroll County despite numerous applications from these counties. Last month, the delegation announced that New Hampshire agencies and organizations were awarded $4,443,428 by the NBRC. The NBRC provides federal support throughout northern New Hampshire and has funded grants that spur economic and community development in rural communities.

Warren, Hassan, Reed Urge President Trump to Reverse Relocation of POW/MIA Flag at the White House
Washington, DC - United States Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), and Ranking Member of SASC Jack Reed urged President Donald Trump to reverse the relocation of the POW/MIA Flag from atop the White House to an area not visible to the public. NH Delegation Announces More Than $5.8 Million in CARES Act Funding to Help Address Economic Impact of COVID-19 on Vulnerable Granite Staters
(Washington, DC) - Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced that New Hampshire will receive $5,826,951 in federal grants established under the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that was passed by Congress and signed into law to help address the economic impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable Granite Staters. Specifically, the funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG) and can be used to expand community health facilities, child care centers, food banks and senior services, as well as support eviction prevention, rental deposit assistance and homelessness prevention programs.
