Senator Hassan Discusses COVID-19 Relief Efforts with NH Nonprofits

NEW HAMPSHIRE – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan today discussed ways that federal COVID-19 relief funding is supporting Granite Staters and nonprofits during a virtual event hosted by the NH Center for Nonprofits, a statewide association dedicated to providing programs and resources to support nonprofits across New Hampshire. Senator Hassan also thanked the nonprofits on the video call for stepping up and providing vital services during the pandemic to Granite Staters in need.

Senator Hassan, Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Strengthen Postal Service and Improve Agency’s Long-Term Financial Stability

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan, a member of the Senate committee that oversees the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), joined a bipartisan group of her colleagues in introducing legislation to overhaul the Postal Service and improve the agency’s long-term financial stability. The bipartisan Postal Service Reform Act would eliminate requirements that have decimated the Postal Services’ finances, increase transparency and accountability at the agency, and strengthen support for postal workers.

Senator Hassan Joins Colleagues in Pushing Administration to Set Limits on PFAS in Bottled Water

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan joined a bipartisan group of 11 senators in calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to set standards for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) found in bottled water to ensure that bottled water products are safe for drinking. PFAS are pervasive and persistent chemicals that accumulate in people’s bodies over time, and exposure to these chemicals has been linked to cancer, liver damage, decreased fertility, and other serious health conditions.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan, a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, and Jeanne Shaheen joined their colleagues in urging Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Xavier Becerra to quickly finalize the proposed rule for the Title X family planning program that would reverse the Trump Administration’s gag rule. Earlier this year, Senator Hassan helped lead more than 150 of her colleagues, including Senator Shaheen, in the Senate and the House in calling on the Biden administration to begin the process of reversing the Trump Administration’s gag rule which had severely curtailed access to family planning and sexual health services.

NH Delegation Announces Nearly $10.7 Million through American Rescue Plan to Combat the Substance Use Disorder Epidemic & Support Mental Health Services in NH

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced with Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will award New Hampshire $10,671,860 in federal grants allocated through the American Rescue Plan to support efforts to combat the substance use disorder epidemic and increase access to mental health services in the state in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, HHS will award $5,640,385 in supplemental funding for New Hampshire from the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant and $5,031,475 in supplemental funding from the Community Mental Health Services Block Grant.
