NH Delegation Announces $400K Grant to Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester to Support Local Suicide Prevention Efforts

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced that the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester will receive $400,000 in federal funding to support local suicide prevention efforts through government funding legislation that was passed by Congress and signed into law in December. Specifically, the funding was awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which is a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the agency’s Zero Suicide initiative. This initiative supports efforts by community mental health providers to implement comprehensive suicide prevention and intervention programs that raise awareness and improve care and outcomes for those at risk for suicide. Shaheen has supported funding for mental health programs like Zero Suicide each year through her work on the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Shaheen, Hassan Announce Federal Funding for NH Public Lands

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced that several New Hampshire projects have been selected to receive funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and the newly created National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund, which was established by the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) to support outdoor recreation, conservation efforts and address maintenance needs. As a result of the bipartisan GAOA cosponsored by Shaheen and Hassan that was signed into law last year, the LWCF’s now-mandatory, full funding of $900 million was allocated to projects and programs in the fiscal year (FY) 2021 government funding legislation that became law in December. One of these projects is the Dundee Forest Legacy Project in Bartlett and Jackson, which has been allocated $2.3 million through the Forest Legacy Program from the LWCF for conservation efforts that will support wildlife, sustainable forestry and outdoor recreation opportunities.

WASHINGTON – The Senate unanimously passed bipartisan legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan, a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and her colleagues to expand COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to all veterans, their spouses, and their caregivers through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). While the Manchester VA Medical Center and many other VA Medical Centers offer vaccines to veterans who receive their health care through the VA, current law restricts the VA from providing no-cost vaccine options for veterans not enrolled in VA services.
