WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Rob Portman (R-OH), Angus King (I-ME), Chris Coons (D-DE), Mike Braun (R-IN), and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) have introduced Domenic and Ed’s Law. This bipartisan, bicameral legislation would allow a parent whose child develops a total and permanent disability to qualify for student loan discharge. NH Delegation Announces More than $405K in Federal Funding through American Rescue Plan for NH Head Start Programs

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded $405,105 in federal grants from the American Rescue Plan to Head Start programs in New Hampshire. Recipients include Southern New Hampshire Services, Community Action Program Belknap-Merrimack Counties, the Community Action Partnership of Strafford County and Southwestern Community Services.

Shaheen & Hassan Join Bipartisan Push to Support Renewable Energy & New Hampshire’s Forest Products Industry

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) helped reintroduce bipartisan legislation that would incentivize the use of energy efficient biomass heaters in homes and businesses instead of relying on fossil fuel energy. The updated Biomass Thermal Utilization (BTU) Act would amend the federal tax code to incentivize the use of energy efficient wood boilers, stoves and heaters through tax credits for capital costs incurred in commercial and industrial installations. The bill will also extend the residential credit passed last year through 2028.

Senators Hassan and Collins Introduce Bipartisan, Bicameral Bill to Support Grandfamilies Affected by Substance Misuse and Other Trauma

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Susan Collins (R-ME), both members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, reintroduced the bipartisan Help Grandfamilies Prevent Child Abuse Act to better support kinship caregivers – the vast majority of whom are grandparents – who have taken over as primary caregivers for children exposed to substance misuse or other trauma. Companion legislation was also introduced in the House by Representatives Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA) and Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA). The bipartisan bill would also encourage state and local child welfare agencies to work with the National Technical Assistance Center on Grandfamilies and Kinship Families. Congress created this Center through the American Rescue Plan to provide comprehensive services and supports to grandparents who have taken over as primary caregivers.
