NH Delegation Announces More Than $2.1 Million for Hudson & Bedford Fire Departments to Recruit & Train Firefighters

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced with U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $2,170,180 in federal funding to the Hudson and Bedford Fire Departments to recruit and train new firefighters. Specifically, the funding was awarded through the agency’s Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) program, which provides grants directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities. Hudson will receive $1,098,456 and Bedford will get $1,071,724 in SAFER grant funding, which will allow the departments to hire four new firefighters each.

Warren, Hassan, Colleagues to FDA: Maintain Public Trust in COVID-19 Vaccine Decisions by Making Reviews Transparent

Washington, DC - United States Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), members of the Senate Health, Education, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, led 13 senators in sending a letter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) calling on the agency to commit to full transparency in the COVID-19 vaccine review process amidst mounting political pressure from the President to approve a vaccine before Election Day. The lawmakers expressed concern that the Trump Administration has overruled scientists and pressured federal agencies to approve products based on weak evidence and urged the FDA to ensure transparency in vaccine review efforts in order to maintain public trust.

Shaheen Leads NH Delegation Letter to NBRC Federal Co-Chairman Raising Concerns with Commission’s Failure to Award Grants to Coos or Carroll County-Based Projects

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) led a letter yesterday on behalf of New Hampshire’s congressional delegation to Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) Federal Co-Chairman Harold Parker, raising concerns that the latest round of funding did not include a single grant awardee from Coos or Carroll County despite numerous applications from these counties. Last month, the delegation announced that New Hampshire agencies and organizations were awarded $4,443,428 by the NBRC. The NBRC provides federal support throughout northern New Hampshire and has funded grants that spur economic and community development in rural communities.

Washington, DC - United States Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), and Ranking Member of SASC Jack Reed urged President Donald Trump to reverse the relocation of the POW/MIA Flag from atop the White House to an area not visible to the public. This decision by the White House appears inconsistent with the law the lawmakers passed last year to require the POW/MIA Flag be displayed whenever the American Flag is displayed on prominent federal properties to honor the more than 81,000 Americans who are listed as Prisoners of War (POW), Missing in Action (MIA), or otherwise unaccounted for from our nation's past wars and conflicts.

NH Delegation Announces More Than $5.8 Million in CARES Act Funding to Help Address Economic Impact of COVID-19 on Vulnerable Granite Staters

(Washington, DC)  - Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced that New Hampshire will receive $5,826,951 in federal grants established under the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that was passed by Congress and signed into law to help address the economic impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable Granite Staters. Specifically, the funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG) and can be used to expand community health facilities, child care centers, food banks and senior services, as well as support eviction prevention, rental deposit assistance and homelessness prevention programs.

Shaheen Leads NH Delegation in Announcing Over $1 Million for Transitional Housing Services that Support NH Domestic & Sexual Violence Survivors

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee that funds the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), announced with U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) over $1 million for New Hampshire organizations to provide transitional housing and other housing assistance to domestic and sexual violence survivors. HAVEN Violence Prevention and Support Services, located in Portsmouth, Epping and Rochester, will receive $625,000 and Bridges: Domestic & Sexual Violence Support Services will receive $400,000 through the OVW’s Transitional Housing Program.

Shaheen, Hassan & Bipartisan Group of Senators Call on Trump to Restore Full Funding for National Guard’s COVID-19 Response

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) sent a letter this week with a bipartisan group of Senators to President Trump, urging him to reinstate the 100 percent federal cost share for all National Guard members activated under 502(f) authority to support states’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The bipartisan letter, led by Senators Lindsay Graham (R-SC) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT), is signed by 33 other Senators on both sides of the aisle. Shaheen and Leahy sent a letter with a group of Senators last month, calling on him to restore full funding to states for National Guard units responding to the public health crisis.

Shaheen, Hassan Announce $175K in LWCF Funds to Support NH Parks & Recreation

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced two New Hampshire projects that will receive funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund’s (LWCF) State and Local Assistance Program. Nearly $129,000 will be invested in improving 13 miles of the Rockingham Recreational Trail from Fremont to Windham, and more than $45,000 will be used for renovations and the addition of a multi-use support and picnic facility at Daniell Park in Franklin. Shaheen and Hassan were cosponsors of the Great American Outdoors Act, bipartisan legislation that was signed into law last month that permanently funds the LWCF.
