Following Advocacy from Senator Hassan, West Point Announces It Will Begin Providing Female Cadets with Better-Fitting Uniforms

WASHINGTON – Following calls from U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan, the United States Military Academy at West Point announced that its next class of female cadets will have the opportunity to be issued better-fitting Army Combat Uniforms (ACUs) – reversing a policy that provided only unisex uniforms to incoming West Point cadets. The previous policy also resulted in female cadets having to pay for the ACU-Female uniforms, which are tailored differently to fit some women better, while providing the unisex uniforms for free.

Following Calls from NH Delegation, USPS Confirms that it Will Process New Hampshire Election Mail Locally in Effort to Ensure Timely Delivery of Ballots

WASHINGTON – Following calls led by U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan and the New Hampshire Congressional Delegation, the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) Northern New England District confirmed that New Hampshire ballots that are received locally will now be delivered directly to the local clerk’s office in order to ensure the timely delivery of ballots. Prior to this announcement, the Postal Service required that ballots returned by voters in New Hampshire be routed to processing facilities in Manchester, NH or White River Junction, VT, which can unnecessarily delay the delivery of ballots.

Shaheen, Hassan & Kuster Announce More than $784K to Support Climate Change Research Led by NH Small Business

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representative Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded Creare LLC in Hanover $784,347 in federal funds in support of climate change research. Specifically, the funding was awarded through DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) program, which seeks to fund the creation of high-potential, high-impact energy technologies that will develop new ways for Americans to get, use and store energy. The award is an investment in carbon emissions reduction technology research and will support Creare’s development of a low-cost air contactor that will capture carbon dioxide from the air so that it can be recovered, concentrated and stored. Senator Shaheen is a strong supporter of robust funding for small business research innovation programs like ARPA-E and has continuously led successful efforts to prevent funding for ARPA-E from being eliminated.
