NH Delegation Announces Nearly $4.6 Million for NH Projects through NBRC

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced today with Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) that New Hampshire agencies and organizations have been awarded $4,591,679 from the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) for various projects that invest in economic and community development. This is $823,386 more for New Hampshire compared to last year’s funding from the NBRC. Last week, Shaheen announced that she helped secure $35 million for the NBRC in bipartisan funding legislation for fiscal year (FY) 2022 that passed the committee and will next be considered by the full Senate, which is a $5 million increase above the FY2021 funding level and the highest the program has ever been funded.

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, and Representative Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon $1 million in federal funding through its Rural Communities Opioid Response-Implementation program. The grant will help Dartmouth-Hitchcock expand prevention, treatment and recovery services to combat the substance use disorder epidemic in rural New Hampshire.

Senate Committee Passes Senator Hassan’s Bipartisan Bill to Strengthen Suicide Prevention Training in Schools

WASHINGTON – The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee voted to pass U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan’s bipartisan bill to address rising youth suicide rates, which she introduced with Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) earlier this year. The Suicide Training and Awareness Nationally Delivered for Universal Prevention (STANDUP) Act encourages states, public schools, and Tribes to implement evidence-based policies and trainings to prevent suicides by prioritizing grantees with these policies to receive certain types of grants, including ones to promote youth mental health awareness among schools and communities and improve connections to services for school-age youth.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen joined a bipartisan group of Senators in introducing the Respond, Innovate, Succeed, and Empower (RISE) Act to help ease the transition from high school to college for students with disabilities. The legislation would amend the Higher Education Act (HEA) and clarify that students with previous documentation of a disability would be able to continue using that documentation as proof when they transition to higher education. This would help ensure that students who receive special education or accommodations because of a disability do not need to spend time and money to go through unnecessary new diagnostic testing.
