NH Delegation Announces More Than $6.7 Million in Funding Through CARES Act to Support Home Energy Assistance

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced that New Hampshire is set to receive $6,768,870 in assistance under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP is a federally funded program that provides eligible households with help paying a portion of their energy bills. The program provided assistance to nearly 30,000 Granite Staters this past year, many of them families, seniors and people with disabilities.

NH Delegation Announces More Than $2.4 Million to Expand COVID-19 Testing in NH Community Health Centers

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced that $2,404,930 will be awarded to community health centers throughout New Hampshire to expand their COVID-19 testing capabilities. The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and is part of $583 million that has been distributed nationally to community health centers as part of funds appropriated by the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act that was passed by Congress and signed into law in last month.

NH Delegation Announces $3.6 Million in Funding Through CARES Act to Support Affordable Housing for Granite Staters

(Manchester, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced that housing authorities and agencies throughout New Hampshire will receive $3,594,661 through the CARES Act to support affordable housing for Granite Staters during the COVID-19 crisis. Specifically, funding was distributed through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Public Housing Operating Fund, which is used to support housing authorities in funding the operating and maintenance expenses of their buildings, and its Housing Choice Voucher Program, which is used to help low-income, disabled and elderly people afford safe and decent housing in the private market.

Senators Markey, Van Hollen, Bennet, Hassan, and Colleagues Plan to Introduce Legislation to Direct $4 Billion in E-Rate Funds to Close Growing Learning Gap in Coronavirus Pandemic

Washington (April 30, 2020) – Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) today announced that they plan to increase their request in upcoming legislation aimed at ensuring all K-12 students have adequate home internet connectivity and devices during the coronavirus pandemic. The Senators previously announced their intention to introduce the Senate companion to legislation, the Emergency Educational Connections Act, recently introduced by Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-06) in the House of Representatives. The Senators plan to introduce companion legislation, but will make one important change: increasing the appropriation from $2 billion to $4 billion. Education groups had originally identified the $2 billion figure believing the crisis would last only through this academic year. As more educators have come to realize the crisis will last far longer, need has only increased.

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) called on Senate leadership to include strong financial support for the child care system in the next coronavirus relief package. In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY), Shaheen and Hassan joined a group of 29 Senate colleagues requesting a $50 billion investment to stabilize the childcare industry, provide childcare for essential workers and invest in childcare to help support long-term economic recovery. Shaheen & Hassan Announce Legislation to Federalize Medical Supply Chain, Increase National Production and Delivery of Necessary Supplies Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced legislation with U.S. Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) Chris Murphy (D-CT), Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senate Democrats on Wednesday that lays out a framework for an effective COVID-19 response by federalizing and adding critical oversight and transparency to the supply chain for critical medical supplies and equipment. The Medical Supply Transparency and Delivery Act requires the president to utilize all available authorities under the Defense Production Act to mobilize a federal response to the pandemic through an equitable and transparent process. The AFL-CIO, SEIU, the National Nurses United, and United Steelworkers support this legislation.
