Bipartisan Farm Bill with Hassan-Supported Provision to Reauthorize Northern Border Regional Commission and Other Critical New Hampshire Priorities Signed Into Law

WASHINGTON – President Trump signed into law today the bipartisan Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018 – also known as the “Farm Bill” – that includes a provision Senator Maggie Hassan cosponsored to reauthorize the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) for five years and expand the program to Cheshire and Belknap counties. The bipartisan legislation also includes additional resources and support for critical New Hampshire priorities, including boosting New Hampshire’s agricultural industry, helping to prevent Granite Staters from going hungry, expanding access to broadband, and supporting efforts to combat the opioid crisis.

President Signs Into Law Bipartisan Legislation Cosponsored by Senator Hassan to Improve Access to Maternal Care in Rural and Underserved Areas

WASHINGTON – President Trump this week signed into law bipartisan legislation cosponsored by Senator Maggie Hassan to improve access to maternal care in rural and underserved areas in New Hampshire and throughout the United States. The bipartisan Improving Access to Maternity Care Act will help reduce shortages in maternity care by identifying areas lacking maternal health professionals and incentivizing providers to practice in these underserved communities. This bill would create a designation for maternity care for use under the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), which would help the NHSC to boost the maternity care workforce in underserved areas through its loan repayment and scholarship programs. The legislation was introduced by Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).

Senator Hassan Statement on New Report that Trump Administration Has Left Millions for Veteran Suicide Prevention Unspent

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today after a report from the Government Accountability Office revealed that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has left millions of dollars budgeted for veteran suicide prevention unspent. The report shows that as of September, the VA had spent less than 1 percent of its $6.2 million budget for suicide prevention outreach. The VA has estimated that an average of 20 veterans die by suicide every day.

Senate Approves Bipartisan Legislation Cosponsored by Senator Hassan to Ensure Veterans Receive Full Housing Benefits

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate yesterday unanimously approved the Forever GI Bill Housing Payment Fulfillment Act, bipartisan legislation cosponsored by Senator Maggie Hassan, to ensure that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reimburses veterans for missed or underpaid Forever GI Bill housing benefits. The bill now moves to the U.S. House of Representatives for a vote.
