Senator Hassan on President’s Prescription Drug Speech: “We Need to See Real Action to Lower Drug Prices”
WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement following President Trump’s speech today on prescription drug prices. As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Senator Hassan has made taking comprehensive action to address the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs a top priority. The New Hampshire Insurance Department estimated that Granite State patients and families spent more than $1 billion on prescription drugs in 2015.

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Senator Maggie Hassan led her colleagues in sending a letter to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) Administrator Neomi Rao, seeking further information about the process by which the OIRA review of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed rule on regulatory science was completed. In the letter, the Senators question Administrator Rao on when the review was completed and why it was completed in such a short time frame.

Senator Hassan Statement on New Report Showing Dramatic Increase in Illicit Fentanyl Seized At Ports of Entry into United States
WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement on a new report from Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) showing that the amount of illicit fentanyl seized by the Department of Homeland Security has increased dramatically, and that the overwhelming majority of fentanyl seizures along the border are occurring at ports of entry. Shaheen, Hassan Seek Increased Funding for Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge
(Washington, DC) – This week, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) joined a group of Senators in sending a letter to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) seeking to double federal conservation funds for the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge—a unique refuge dedicated to protecting more than 36,000 acres within parts of the Connecticut River watershed through New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. Preservation of the Conte Refuge is critical to the economic vitality and environmental health of the Connecticut River watershed and surrounding region, including environmentally significant land in Jefferson, Whitefield, Carroll and Columbia, New Hampshire.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen today released the following statements on a new report about the economic impact of the opioid crisis in New Hampshire. The analysis, prepared by the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee Democratic staff and modeled after a national analysis conducted by President Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers, found that in 2016 alone the opioid crisis cost New Hampshire more than $5.3 billion from a variety of factors including health care spending, substance use disorder treatment, criminal justice, and lost productivity.
