WASHINGTON – Today, bipartisan legislation cosponsored by Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan to promote better care for veterans was signed into law by President Trump. The State Veterans Home Adult Day Health Care Improvement Act would enable veterans who are living in their own homes to receive certain services at their residences through state veterans homes, while also cutting costs and increasing the standard of living for veterans who need specialized medical assistance.

NH Delegation Calls on Trump Administration to Prioritize Emergency Dredging for Hampton Harbor in Army Corps Of Engineers’ Yearly Work Plan

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) led a letter with U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02), to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Mick Mulvaney and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works R.D. James, requesting that emergency dredging for Hampton Harbor be included in the OMB and Army Corps of Engineers’ (Corps) fiscal year 2018 work plan. The two agencies develop an annual work plan to address high-need projects following the implementation of government funding legislation.

After Securing Significant Increase in Opioid Response Funding & Set-Aside For Hardest Hit States, NH Delegation Makes Recommendations to Trump Administration to Make Sure New Hampshire Gets its Fair Share

(Washington, DC)— U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) led a New Hampshire delegation letter with U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02) to the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), calling on the Trump administration to make sure New Hampshire gets its fair share of new opioid funding that the delegation was instrumental in securing. The omnibus government funding bill signed into law on Friday, provides an increase of $3.3 billion in opioid funding, of which $142 million is set aside for states with the highest mortality rates from overdoses. The Senators and Congresswomen are requesting that the Trump administration implement specific policies that ensures this set-aside fund prioritizes funding for states like New Hampshire.

Bipartisan Bill Cosponsored by Senator Hassan to Strengthen Protections for Whistleblowers Passes the Senate

WASHINGTON – A bipartisan bill cosponsored by Senator Maggie Hassan to strengthen protections for whistleblowers passed the Senate this week. The bipartisan Whistleblower Protection Coordination Act will permanently extend the program requiring a dedicated official in each inspector general office focused on whistleblower protection issues. The bill changes the title of these officials from ombudsman to “Whistleblower Protection Coordinator” so that potential whistleblowers better understand the role of this position and authorizes Whistleblower Protection Coordinators to more actively promote and protect whistleblowing to employees in their agency.

(Washington, DC) – This week, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) took a stand against a nationwide online sales tax collection requirement. Shaheen and Hassan joined Senators Jon Tester (D-MT), Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Jeff Merkley (D-OR), all representing states without a sales tax, to introduce a resolution opposing a bill that would require businesses selling products or services over the internet to collect sales tax for other states, even if the seller is located in a state without a sales tax.
