PASSED THE HOUSE: Senators Hassan and Rubio’s Bipartisan Bill to Establish Additional Sanctions on Iranian Regime

WASHINGTON – As Iranian oil sales to China continue to help fund Iran’s dangerous regime – which also finances Hamas and Hezbollah – the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)’s bipartisan Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum (SHIP) Act, which would take additional steps to sanction illicit purchases of Iranian oil and hold the regime’s enablers accountable.

“Especially as Israel continues to defend against terrorists that Iran helps fund, we must do all that we can to cut off Iran’s key revenue streams,” said Senator Hassan. “I am glad to see the House pass this bipartisan legislation to sanction those who enable purchases of Iranian oil, and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to support this bill so that we can get it to President Biden’s desk.”

“Our nation’s foreign adversaries must know they will face consequences for empowering other regimes that are anti-democratic and anti-American. We must enact and then rigorously enforce this bill so that those who are enriching themselves through the sale of sanctioned oil, or linked with its illicit trade, are held accountable,” said Senator Rubio.

Joining Senators Hassan and Rubio in cosponsoring this legislation were Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV), John Hoeven (R-ND), Rick Scott (R-FL), John Barrasso (R-WY), Katie Boyd Britt (R-AL), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Josh Hawley (R-MO), John Boozman (R-AR), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Susan Collins (R-ME), Mike Braun (R-IN), John Thune (R-SD), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Roger Marshall (R-KS), John Cornyn (R-TX), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Tedd Budd (R-NC), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), and John Kennedy (R-LA).
