Senator Hassan Speaks at New England Council Breakfast

MANCHESTER – Senator Hassan today addressed New England Council members at a breakfast in Manchester, where she spoke about her work to lower costs for Granite Staters and strengthen American innovation. The New England Council is an alliance of regional business organizations, including academic and health institutions, which advocates for federal public policies that will promote economic growth.

Senator Hassan began by discussing high costs that Granite Staters are facing, and went on to share some ways that she is working to lower costs, including prescription drug and gas prices.

The Senator spoke about a package that she is pushing for that would allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, which Senator Hassan said would be “a game changer and truly a lifesaver for a lot of Granite Staters and Americans.”

“I think the focus on prescription drugs is really, really important to allow families to make ends meet and would also really improve health outcomes for so many Americans,” Senator Hassan said.

She also spoke about her work to lower prices at the pump for Americans. “We also know that we have to do more to help people with their costs right now. So that's why I support suspending the federal gas tax for at least the rest of this year,” said Senator Hassan.

In addition, Senator Hassan spoke about efforts to boost semiconductor manufacturing, strengthen and expand American research and development, and help U.S. businesses outcompete countries like China. Senator Hassan was part of the original group of bipartisan Senators to introduce legislation that invests in American competition and innovation, and she is now working with her colleagues on finding agreement on a package to get signed into law.
