NEWINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan, a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, paid tribute to prisoners of war and those still missing in action at the annual POW/MIA Recognition Day event at Pease Air National Guard Base. The ceremony comes one day before National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is on Friday, September 17.

“From World War II through today, more than 81,000 service members still remain missing,” Senator Hassan said. “We owe those heroes – and all those who have served and continue to serve – a debt of gratitude that we can never fully repay, but we must always strive to ensure that our country is ever-worthy of their service. We can do that by keeping those missing in our thoughts and prayers, remaining forever grateful for their service and keeping the flame of hope alive.”

Earlier this year, Senator Hassan successfully led a bipartisan push to return the POW/MIA flag atop the White House, after it was removed during the previous administration.
