Senator Hassan Hosts Roundtable Discussion on Ensuring That Seniors Have Access to Affordable Health Care, Medicare

Senator Hassan participates in a discussion on ensuring that seniors have access to affordable health care and Medicare.

SALEM - Today, Senator Maggie Hassan hosted a roundtable discussion at Salemhaven Long Term Care and Rehabilitation Center with patients, caregivers, and physicians on protecting health care for seniors. During the discussion, Senator Hassan highlighted her efforts in the Senate to lower the cost of prescription drugs, safeguard the benefits that the Affordable Care Act is providing for older Americans, and to protect and strengthen Medicare and Medicaid.

"New Hampshire's seniors deserve to have a high quality of life, with access to the full benefits they have earned, and in the Senate, I am fighting to ensure that our seniors have the support they need," said Senator Hassan. "Today's roundtable reinforced how critical it is that we continue working to reduce the costs of prescription drugs for seniors, improve the Affordable Care Act and protect the progress it's made forMedicare. I will work with members of both parties in the Senate to stand up for critical priorities that older Americans depend on."

"It was great to join Senator Hassan, patients, physicians, and caregivers at Salemhaven today for an important discussion on how to best support our state's older adults," said Todd Fahey of AARP New Hampshire. "Every Granite Stater deserves the opportunity to live with dignity and purpose, and I am grateful for Senator Hassan's strong leadership in the Senate on critical issues facing New Hampshire seniors."

Senator Hassan has stood up against proposals that would increase health insurance costs for older Americans, including the Trump Administration's reported plan toallow insurance companies to charge older adults higher rates than allowed under the Affordable Care Act. While the Trump Administration backed off one particular proposal, efforts underway to try to repeal the Affordable Care Act would remove critical protections for seniors.

Last month, Senator Hassan also co-sponsored legislation to lower costs of prescription drugs for seniors by allowing Medicare to negotiate for prescription drug prices and to allow the reimportation of lower-cost prescription drugs from Canada. She is also standing against proposals in Washingtonto reduceSocial Security, cutMedicare and turn it into a voucher program, and undermine Medicaid.
