Senator Hassan Introduces Legislation to Provide $1,000 Tax Break for Middle Class Families

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan introduced the Middle Class Tax Break Act, legislation that would create a $1,000 Working America Tax Credit for middle class families in New Hampshire and across America who have earned income up to $200,000. The bill would also provide a $500 tax credit for individual filers who have earned income up to $100,000.

“As corporate profits continue to rise, too many middle class families in New Hampshire and across America are being left behind,” Senator Hassan said. “Giving middle class families a $1,000 yearly tax cut will make it a bit easier for hard-working families to get ahead and stay ahead, helping to drive economic growth. Any federal tax changes must put working families – not corporate special interests – first, and I stand ready to work with anyone who is serious about expanding opportunity for middle class families and small businesses.”

As part of her efforts to expand economic opportunity for hard-working Granite Staters, Senator Hassan also helped introduce the Working Families Tax Relief Act to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC), and cosponsored the Bank on Students Emergency Loan Refinancing Act to help borrowers save thousands by refinancing student loan debt. Just last week, the Senator also helped introduce the Child Care for Working Families Act to ensure that families have access to affordable, high-quality child care and preschool.
