Senator Hassan Statement on Confirmation of Congressman Mick Mulvaney to Serve as Director of OMB

WASHINGTON - Today, Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after voting against Congressman Mick Mulvaney's nomination to serve as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB):

"As a member of Congress, Congressman Mulvaney repeatedly voted to shut down the federal government, harming New Hampshire and America's economy. Rep. Mulvaney did little to convince me - either in our one-on-one meeting or at his hearing - that he would stop playing political games with the budget process and the American economy in this new role. Rep. Mulvaney also supports repealing Medicaid expansion, which would hurt tens of thousands of New Hampshire families and harm our response to the opioid crisis, and he has pursued a politically motivated agenda to defund Planned Parenthood. As a member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, I will continue working to protect New Hampshire priorities and ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability at the Office of Management and Budget."

During Congressman Mulvaney's hearing before the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Senator Hassan pressed him on his support of governmental shutdowns, his skepticism on climate science, and his record of opposing federal funding for Planned Parenthood. The Senator also highlighted the importance of Medicaid expansion, which is a critical tool in efforts to combat the heroin, fentanyl, and opioid crisis in New Hampshire.
