WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) released the following statement today after the Senate failed to advance a common-sense proposal which had bipartisan support and would have prevented health insurance premiums from skyrocketing for millions of Americans next year:
“I am disappointed that Washington Republicans are choosing to allow a surge in health insurance costs to go forward – and that the American people will be forced to pay the price.
“The price will be paid by the Granite State couple who each earn $42,000 a year and will go into debt because their health insurance costs $12,000 more next year. The price will be paid by the mom who can’t afford routine check-ups without her insurance and later gets diagnosed with a preventable disease. The price will be paid by the millions of Americans who, when faced with a doubling of their health insurance premiums, will have no choice but to go without health care.
“Today’s vote was the best opportunity for us to extend the Affordable Care Act tax cuts that help people afford their health insurance. I have and will continue to engage in bipartisan conversations to deliver relief for our families. As always, I am willing to work with members across both sides of the aisle to lower costs for families. But between their reckless tariffs, Medicaid cuts, and now these new health care cost increases, Congressional Republicans and President Trump keep making life harder and more expensive for families at every turn. Granite Staters and Americans are watching closely to see who is fighting to lower costs and who is standing in the way.”
