Senator Hassan Statement on President Trump’s Decision to Move U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after President Trump announced plans to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem:

“I have concerns about any party – whether it be the U.S., Israel or the Palestinians – taking unilateral actions that would make lasting peace more difficult to achieve. The Jewish connection to Jerusalem through the ages is undeniable and deep, which is why Israel made Jerusalem its capital in 1950. At the same time, as the home to three of the world’s major religions, tensions in Jerusalem have frequently escalated to violence. Every U.S. administration faced with this decision has opted to keep our country’s embassy in Tel Aviv, and I have concerns that the Trump Administration’s actions will further inflame the region.”
