Senator Hassan Statement on the Anniversary of January 6th Attack

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) issued the following statement on the anniversary of the January 6th attack:

“In the two years since January 6th, as details have emerged about that awful and perilous day, we have learned more and more about the full extent of a planned, armed attack on our democracy. We have also been reminded daily that threats to our democracy remain. We have repeatedly seen the clear danger posed by those who seek to undermine our democracy and who reject the most fundamental tenet of our founding—that elected representatives are accountable to the people. I hope that today’s anniversary will remind all Americans that in order to strengthen and sustain our beloved democracy and our way of life, each of us must commit ourselves to nurturing its roots. This starts with unifying around the importance of strengthening our system of free and fair elections.

“I also extend my deepest gratitude to all of the law enforcement and members of the armed forces, but especially the Capitol Police, who at incredible costs protected our democracy that fateful day. Their service and sacrifices saved lives and protected the future of our country.”
