Senator Hassan Statement on Trump Budget Proposal to Eliminate Northern Border Regional Commission

WASHINGTON - Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement on President Trump's budget proposal to completely eliminate the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC). The NBRC has invested millions of dollars to help spur economic and community development in northern New Hampshire, and it has provided funding to increase access to substance misuse services.

"President Trump's budget puts corporate special interests ahead of critical economic priorities for New Hampshire, including drastically cutting economic development efforts to bring new jobs to the North Country," said Senator Maggie Hassan. "I am extremely concerned that the Trump budget would eliminate the Northern Border Regional Commission, which has provided critical support to boost economic and community development and job creation in the North Country. The Commission has also provided important funding for treatment and recovery services in the region as we work to combat the heroin, fentanyl, and opioid crisis. Eliminating the Northern Border Regional Commission would be harmful to the infrastructure needs and economic development efforts in the region, and I will fight strongly to ensure that these cuts never happen."
