MANCHESTER – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan met with Planned Parenthood providers and staff yesterday, where she heard about how the Trump Administration’s attacks on the organization and on reproductive health care are impacting patients.
The Republican budget bill signed into law by President Trump targets the organization by attempting to ban Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid reimbursements, which could potentially force clinics to close, limiting Granite Staters’ access to essential health care. Pending litigation has paused this measure, but the Trump Administration continues to target Planned Parenthood. The Trump Administration is also working to defund Planned Parenthood by withholding Title X federal funding for life-saving health care services – which include cancer screening, reproductive health care, and family planning services that Granite Staters count on.
“Every day, Planned Parenthood provides Granite Staters with affordable health care, including life-saving health services,” said Senator Hassan. “The Trump Administration’s relentless attacks on this essential care – from cancer screenings to family planning services – represent a direct assault on women’s freedom to make their own health decisions and chart their own futures.”
Senator Hassan continues to express concern about the harms of the Republican budget bill recently signed into law by President Trump. The bill will take health care away from tens of thousands of Granite Staters, make massive cuts to health care, and explode the national debt by trillions of dollars in order to pay for tax giveaways for corporate special interests and billionaires. Additionally, Senator Hassan has a record of standing up for reproductive freedom. In June, on the three-year anniversary of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade, she joined a group of Senators to reintroduce legislation that would guarantee a woman’s right to access reproductive health care. Earlier this year, Senator Hassan spoke on the Senate floor to criticize the decision by the Senate’s Republican leadership to hold a vote on legislation to restrict a woman’s fundamental freedom to access reproductive health care instead of working in a bipartisan manner to lower the cost of living.
