Senator Hassan Votes to Confirm Merrick Garland as Attorney General

Senator Met One-On-One with Judge Garland Earlier Today

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) today voted to confirm Judge Merrick Garland as the next Attorney General of the United States. Earlier in the day, Senator Hassan met one-on-one with Judge Garland to discuss New Hampshire priorities for the Justice Department.

“Judge Merrick Garland is eminently qualified and will be a strong Attorney General who will protect the Constitutional rights of all Americans. I was pleased to vote for him after meeting with him earlier in the day, where we discussed key priorities for New Hampshire. I appreciated Judge Garland’s commitment to continue to strengthen efforts to reduce substance misuse, including supporting state and local efforts, countering opioid trafficking on the dark web, and addressing the growing issue of methamphetamine in New Hampshire. I also raised the importance of increasing transparency and holding Purdue Pharma accountable for its role in the opioid epidemic,” said Senator Hassan.

Senator Hassan continued, “I look forward to working with Judge Garland, the Department of Justice, and bipartisan Members of Congress to uphold our responsibility to ensure equal justice under law for all Americans, and to stay focused on addressing the substance misuse epidemic amid the COVID-19 pandemic that has devastated Granite State communities.”
