Senator Hassan Votes to Pass Legislation to Combat Surge in Anti-Asian Hate Crimes

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) voted to pass the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, introduced by Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI), to help combat the surge in hate crimes targeting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the country.

“Since the beginning of this pandemic, some have spread false, hateful, and dangerous narratives surrounding the COVID-19 virus – and in turn we have seen a surge in hate crimes targeting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. This is un-American and must end,” said Senator Hassan. “I am proud to join my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in passing this important legislation that denounces racist attacks against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and takes steps to combat them. I urge my colleagues in the House to pass this bill without delay.”
