Senator Hassan: “We Must Hold Russia Accountable for these Egregious Attacks on the Foundation of our Democracy”

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Justice indicted twelve Russian spies for attacks on the 2016 U.S. presidential election:

“We must hold Russia accountable for these egregious attacks on the foundation of our democracy. These indictments also deepen my concern over President Trump’s upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin, and if the President goes forward with this meeting, he must demand that Putin come clean about Russian interference in our elections and cease any further interference in our democracy.

“These latest indictments, along with the previous indictments and guilty pleas of senior leaders in President Trump’s campaign and administration, also remind us that it is critical that the special counsel continue to have the independence to follow the facts wherever they may lead.”
