Senator Hassan's Statement on Senate Confirmation of Congressman Tom Price as Secretary of Health and Human Services

Senator Hassan Participated in Tonight's Floor Debate Prior to the Final Vote on Rep. Price's Confirmation

WASHINGTON - Tonight, Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after voting against Congressman Tom Price's nomination to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services:

"It is critical that all Americans have quality, affordable health care, and Congressman Price's unwillingness to commit to protecting key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, such as New Hampshire's bipartisan Medicaid expansion program is unacceptable, as is his record of undermining access to reproductive health care for women and families. The ACA has provided critical tools for combating the heroin, fentanyl and opioid crisis, including coverage of substance use disorder and behavioral health services, that are helping to save lives in New Hampshire and across the country. I am also deeply troubled by Rep. Price's apparent violations of the STOCK Act that leave questions about whether he will put big corporations and his own financial interests before the health of the American people. I will continue to stand up for the health and well-being of the people of New Hampshire, including opposing any effort to repeal health coverage from tens of thousands of Granite Staters."

This evening, Senator Hassan participated in the floor debate prior to the final vote on Rep. Price's confirmation, highlighting her concerns with his desire to repeal the Affordable Care Act, his record of turning back the clock on women's access to health care, and his extensive conflicts of interest and potential violations of the STOCK Act. Senator Hassan questioned Congressman Price on his record during his hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.
