Senator Maggie Hassan: Next HHS Secretary Must Commit to Immediately Dropping Attempts to Sabotage Health Care Markets

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement on Tom Price’s resignation as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Last night, Senator Hassan called for Secretary Price to resign.

“Following Secretary Tom Price’s resignation for gross misuse of taxpayer dollars, it is critical that the next Secretary of Health and Human Services commits to immediately dropping the Trump Administration’s attempts to sabotage health care markets and raise health care costs for millions of Americans,” Senator Hassan said. “From slashing efforts to help consumers find the best health care options for them to refusing to commit to making cost-sharing reduction payments that help lower out-of-pocket costs, the Administration has actively worked to undermine the health and economic well-being of the American people. Enough is enough: it is time for the Administration to put politics aside and work with members of both parties to stabilize health care markets, lower health care costs – particularly the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs – and combat the opioid crisis that is devastating New Hampshire and states across the nation.”
