Shaheen & Hassan Praise Judiciary Committee’s Approval of Chief Willard to Serve as U.S. Marshal for New Hampshire

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) issued the following statements on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s approval of Manchester Police Chief Nick Willard to serve as U.S. Marshal for the state of New Hampshire:

“Chief Willard is preeminently qualified to serve as the U.S. Marshal for New Hampshire, and I am glad to see the Judiciary Committee move swiftly and approve his nomination,” said Shaheen. “Throughout his service as chief of police for our largest city, Chief Willard has supported Manchester’s most vulnerable children who have been exposed to violence and has led efforts on the most significant challenge facing our state: the opioid epidemic. He has developed successful partnerships and initiatives with state and federal agencies and community partners that demonstrate his commitment to treating substance misuse disorder and turning the tide of this epidemic. I will urge the Senate to act expeditiously and approve Chief Willard’s nomination so he can immediately begin working on issues critical to our state’s safety and security.”

“I am pleased that the Senate Judiciary Committee has voted to approve Chief Willard’s nomination to serve as U.S. Marshal for New Hampshire,” said Hassan. “Chief Willard has spent his career working to keep our communities in New Hampshire safe, and has demonstrated steadfast leadership through his service with the Manchester Police Department and his service defending our nation in the Air Force. His skills, leadership, and dedication to building a stronger, safer New Hampshire make him an excellent choice for this position, and I look forward to continue working together to address the challenges facing our state, including the devastating opioid crisis, and to ensure that our state and country are safe, secure, and free.”
