Senator Hassan Statement on Reports that Trump Administration Has Weakened Safety Standards for PFAS Over Objection of Scientists

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan released a statement following reports that the Trump administration overruled scientists and weakened safety standards for a certain class of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Specifically, Trump appointees at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) changed a safety assessment for PFBS, a chemical that has been linked to thyroid, kidney and reproductive problems at very low levels of exposure, that will make it easier for state and federal regulators to set lower clean up and drinking water standards for this dangerous chemical.

NH Delegation Applauds $1 Million Awarded through NBRC to Northern Forest Center

Collins, Hassan Protect Funding for Nearly 200 Rural, Low-Income School Districts

U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced that they successfully reversed a Department of Education decision that jeopardized funding for nearly 200 rural, low-income school districts.  A provision they negotiated that was included in the year-end government funding bill that was signed into law prevents a funding cliff for the Rural Education Achievement Program (REAP), the only dedicated federal funding stream to support rural schools.

Shaheen, Hassan Announce NH Expected to Receive an Estimated $2B in COVID Relief

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) issued the following statements in response to new estimates from the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) predicting that New Hampshire is expected to receive approximately $2 billion across a variety of sectors from new federal COVID-19 relief included in government funding legislation that was signed into law Sunday night, which Shaheen and Hassan helped negotiate.
