Senator Hassan Receives New Englander of the Year Award from New England Council, Granite Stater of the Year Award from the New Hampshire College and University Council

BOSTON, MA – Senator Maggie Hassan yesterday received the New Englander of the Year award during the New England Council’s reception at the World Trade Center in Boston. The award honors residents of New England for their contributions to their field of work, and their leadership in improving New England’s quality of life and economy. The award is presented by the New England Council, a nonpartisan alliance of businesses, academic, and health institutions, as well as public and private organizations throughout New England to promote economic growth in the region.

With Funding for Community Health Centers About to Run Dry, Senators Hassan & Shaheen Cosponsor Bipartisan Legislation to Fund These Critical Centers

NH Delegation Applauds Federal Award to Bolster Legal Assistance for Granite Staters

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), joined by Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01), applauded the Legal Services Corporation’s (LSC) recent announcement that the Legal Advice & Referral Center in New Hampshire will receive a $62,290 Technology Initiative Grant to bolster legal assistance for Granite Staters. The grant will improve the center’s use of technology in assisting low-income individuals with civil legal needs. The LSC is a non-profit organization established by Congress to provide financial support for civil legal aid to low-income Americans. The LSC’s Technology Initiative Grants program supports legal aid organizations in developing and utilizing technologies that improve efficiency and increase access to high-quality legal assistance. Senator Shaheen, the lead Democrat of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, has repeatedly secured federal funding to continue the LSC program in the yearly appropriations process, despite the Trump administration’s efforts to defund the program.

Hassan-Backed Legislation Honoring Christa McAuliffe Signed into Law

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Mike Enzi (R-WY) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) issued the following statements after the Christa McAuliffe Commemorative Coin Act, bipartisan legislation that would create a commemorative coin to honor Christa McAuliffe, the Concord teacher who died aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986, was signed into law. The bill further reaffirms American commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and supports it with proceeds from the coin. The bill passed the Senate and the House of Representatives with strong bipartisan support. Shaheen, NH Delegation Announce More than $600,000 for NH Law Enforcement Funding for Anti-Heroin Task Force & Officer Performance Development

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the lead Democrat of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the Department of Justice, announced today with Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01), $664,673 in federal funds for New Hampshire through the Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program. The first award is $489,674 to the New Hampshire Department of Safety for the state’s Anti-Heroin Task Force (AHTF), and the second award is $174,999 to Dartmouth College for a COPS Hiring Program (CHP) Performance Measurement Study. COPS AHTF grants are highly competitive, yet this is the second time that New Hampshire has received funding through this program. CHP grants support state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies’ ability to hire, preserve and/or rehire law enforcement officers and to increase community policing efforts. Shaheen is a senior member of the Appropriations Committee and the lead Democrat on the Subcommittee that funds these programs. Over the years, she has successfully secured federal resources for the COPS program and saved the AHTF program from elimination by the Trump administration. Shaheen boosted federal resources for the COPS grant program in the Appropriations Committee-approved funding legislation for fiscal year (FY) 2020.

Shaheen, Hassan and Pappas Announce More Than $3.2 Million in Federal Funding to Laconia School District to Prevent Youth Violence and Boost Mental Health Services

(Washington, DC) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the lead Democrat of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the Department of Justice, announced today with Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) that the Laconia School District will receive $3,212,500 in federal funding from the United States Departments of Justice and Education in support of efforts to reduce and prevent youth violence in the school system, bolster student and family engagement, and to better support school and community-based mental health services.
