Senator Hassan Joins Colleagues in Urging President Trump to Hold China Accountable as the End of Negotiations Approach

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan joined colleagues yesterday in urging President Trump to ensure that any trade agreement with China adequately addresses China’s predatory intellectual property practices and establishes a monitoring and enforcement mechanism to hold China accountable. The United States Trade Representative found that despite at least eight previous commitments to stop requiring U.S. companies to transfer technology in exchange for access to the Chinese market, China continues to coerce American firms. Senator Hassan is a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which sets trade policy.

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan, a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee today joined her colleagues in introducing bipartisan legislation to help address the growing burden of student loan debt. The bipartisan Employer Participation in Repayment Act would allow employers to annually contribute up to $5,250 tax-free to paying off their employees’ student loans – providing employees with much-needed relief and employers with another tool to attract and retain talented employees.

Bipartisan Hassan-Portman Bill Bolstering “Cyber Hunt and Incident Response Teams” Passes Homeland Security Committee

WASHINGTON – The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee today passed the bipartisan Hassan-Portman Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cyber Hunt and Incident Response Teams Act. Shaheen & Hassan Legislation to Save LWCF, Redesignate Saint-Gaudens Site & Protect Nashua River Passes the Senate

(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) released the following statements after their legislation to permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) passed the Senate. Shaheen and Hassan recently introduced bipartisan legislation to permanently reauthorize LWCF, which helps preserve and maintain critical lands for national parks, forests, wildlife refuges and recreational areas in all 50 states and nearly every congressional district at no cost to American taxpayers. The U.S. outdoor recreation economy generates roughly $900 billion in annual economic activity and supports 7.6 million jobs, all of which benefits from investments by LWCF. The bill passed the Senate along with Shaheen and Hassan’s legislation to protect the Nashua River and its tributaries and redesignate Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site as a “National Historical Park.”

Cotton, Hassan, and Warren Introduce the Full Military Honors Act

Washington, D.C.— Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) along with Senators Maggie Hassan (D-New Hampshire) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) today introduced the Full Military Honors Act, a bill that would allow all Medal of Honor recipients and former prisoners of war to receive a full military honors burial ceremony with an escort, regardless of rank. Currently, full military honors with an escort are reserved for senior officers, non-commissioned officers, and servicemembers killed in combat. The Full Military Honors Act passed the Senate in December of 2018. Representatives Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas), Elaine Luria (D-Virginia), Jimmy Panetta (D-California), and Scott Taylor (R-Virginia) introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives.

The Senator brought Donna Beckman of Seabrook, a Granite Stater who faced a surprise medical bill, as her guest. Donna received a surprise medical bill for $1,648 following a visit to an emergency room that was in her insurance network, and was only later told that a doctor she saw was actually out-of-network.
