Shaheen, Hassan Announce Resources for Substance Use Disorder Youth Mentoring Program at Nashua Boys and Girls Club

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), the lead Democrat of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the Department of Justice (DOJ), announced with Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) that Eluna—a non-profit organization that assists children impacted by substance use disorder—received $500,000 in federal funding through the DOJ’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) for their Camp Mariposa program, which operates sites in Nashua and Dayton, Ohio. The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua partners with Eluna for the substance misuse prevention and mentoring program.

New Hampshire Delegation Joins ONDCP Director Carroll for Youth Substance Use Prevention Discussion in Milford

(Milford, NH) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) today joined Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Director Jim Carroll, as well as local students, school administrators, community leaders and youth advocates in a roundtable discussion at the Boys and Girls Club of Souhegan Valley in Milford on the importance of the Drug Free Communities support program, which provides funding to prevent youth substance use. The participants received a briefing from Community Action for Safe Teens (CAST), a committee of the Boys and Girls Club and Drug Free Communities grant recipients from Raymond, Franklin, Lebanon, Jaffrey, Haverhill, Winchester, Nashua, and Kingston.

NH Delegation Announce More Than $4.7 Million in Federal Grant Funding to Improve Treatment of Opioid Addiction

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) today announced the award of $4,718,681 in federal grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to improve the treatment of opioid addiction through its Helping to End Addition Long-term (HEAL) Initiative. This program provides resources to test new approaches aimed at improving treatment for chronic pain, curbing the rates of opioid use disorder (OUD) and overdoses and achieving long-term recovery from opioid addiction. Of these funds, $4,268,727 has been awarded to Dartmouth College to fund the translation of medical research on opioid addiction treatment to real-world practice, while $449,954 was awarded to Q2i, a health care technology company, to research new strategies to prevent and treat opioid addiction.

NH Delegation Announces $250K in Federal Funding for Littleton through NBRC

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen announced today with Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) that the town of Littleton has been awarded $250,000 in funding from the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) in partnership with the U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA). The award will allow for the acquisition and development of a 5-acre site in downtown Littleton, which will benefit numerous local businesses and will support the development of a new outdoor recreation area to increase tourism to Littleton throughout the year. As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Shaheen has consistently secured federal funding for the NBRC and EDA through the annual appropriations process, and rejected the President’s budget proposal to Congress that eliminates funding for both programs. Representative Kuster advocated on behalf of Littleton and worked with the House Appropriations Committee to secure this grant from the NBRC.

Senate Passes Bipartisan Hassan-Cassidy Legislation to Close Medicaid Rebate Loophole That Benefits Big Pharma At Expense of Taxpayers

WASHINGTON – The bipartisan Fair and Accurate Medicaid Pricing (AMP) Act, led by Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA), to close a loophole in the Medicaid rebate program that results in big pharmaceutical companies overcharging taxpayers was included in the continuing resolution budget package passed by the Senate today.
