WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan today voted to approve the final version of a bipartisan funding bill for fiscal year 2019 that invests in critical New Hampshire priorities, including bolstering national security, combating the opioid crisis, strengthening workforce training, investing in education, and more. The funding bill ensures that New Hampshire will receive $22.9 million in State Opioid Response Grants for fiscal year 2019 on top of the state’s $22.9 million for fiscal year 2018.

Duckworth, Casey, Hassan, Klobuchar Introduce Legislation to Strengthen the ADA & Help Small Businesses Become Accessible

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) introduced legislation today with the Ranking Member of the Senate Aging Committee Bob Casey (D-PA), U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) to make it easier for small businesses to become accessible for people with disabilities and help those businesses comply with the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Disabled Access Credit Expansion Act bolsters the existing Disabled Access Credit (DAC), which helps businesses pay for renovations by doubling the maximum tax credit and allowing more small businesses to receive it. The legislation also invests in programs that mediate ADA-related disputes to avoid additional litigation and help individuals and businesses understand the ADA.

Senate Passes Bipartisan Bill Cosponsored by Senator Hassan to Prohibit “Pharmacy Gag Clauses” That Cause Consumers to Pay Higher Prices for Prescription Drugs

WASHINGTON – A bipartisan bill co-sponsored by Senator Maggie Hassan to prohibit so-called “pharmacy gag clauses” that conceal prescription drug prices from patients passed the U.S. Senate today. Pharmacy gag clauses forbid pharmacists from proactively telling consumers if their prescription would cost less if they paid for it out of pocket rather than through their insurance plan, and pharmacists who disobey these clauses can face significant penalties. The bipartisan Patient Right to Know Drug Prices Act would forbid these gag clauses.

NH Delegation Announces $20 Million Research Grant to UNH

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced a $20 million National Science Foundation (NSF) award to New Hampshire’s Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (NH EPSCoR) at the University of New Hampshire. This grant will fund NH BioMade, a five-year project aimed at expanding New Hampshire’s research capacity in the design and development of potentially lifesaving biomaterials using 3D printing. Critically, this project will build research capacity across New Hampshire, developing a strong workforce for biotechnology and advanced manufacturing through additional hiring, workforce training and education.

Shaheen, Hassan & Shea-Porter Announce $207K in Grants to Combat Veteran Homelessness

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) announced $207,175 in federal grants to provide rental assistance for homeless veterans in Manchester and Bedford from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These grants include $78,704 to the Manchester Housing & Redevelopment Authority for Manchester and $128,471 to the New Hampshire Housing Finance Agency for Bedford, and will provide homeless veterans with vouchers to access affordable housing as well as housing support from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

NH Delegation Announces $3.3M in Federal Funding for Urban Community Development & Affordable Housing on New Hampshire Seacoast

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced $3,290,637 in federal grants for urban community development and affordable housing investments in New Hampshire from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These grants include a $3 million Housing Trust Fund (HTF) Grant for the state of New Hampshire and a $290,637 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for the city of Rochester. The grants will support efforts to expand affordable housing throughout New Hampshire and expand economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate income individuals, and support efforts to preserve and construct rental housing for extremely low-income families.

Senators Shaheen, Hassan, and Congresswoman Shea-Porter Announce Grant to Improve Dover’s Transportation Infrastructure With Innovative Technologies

WASHINGTON – Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan, and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter today announced a grant of more than $649,000 to improve Dover’s transportation infrastructure through the use of innovative technologies. The City of Dover will implement a number of Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPMs), which will help improve efficiency, safety, air quality, and mobility for area residents by improving data collection at the Central Avenue traffic stops. The grant will also go toward improving highway efficiency by integrating the New Hampshire Department of Transportation’s (NHDOT) Traffic Management Center (TMC) in Concord to Dover’s traffic control system. The goal is to improve traffic conditions by seamlessly diverting cars to Dover’s parallel street network in case of an incident on Spaulding Turnpike, thus decreasing the time commuters are stuck in traffic.
