Shaheen, Hassan Introduce Resolution to Push Back Against Nationwide Internet Sales Tax Collection Requirement

(Washington, DC) – This week, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) took a stand against a nationwide online sales tax collection requirement. Shaheen and Hassan joined Senators Jon Tester (D-MT), Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Jeff Merkley (D-OR), all representing states without a sales tax, to introduce a resolution opposing a bill that would require businesses selling products or services over the internet to collect sales tax for other states, even if the seller is located in a state without a sales tax.

WASHINGTON – Following calls from Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) for a full investigation into the sale of nearly $2 million in Equifax securities by high-level Equifax executives shortly after the company learned of a massive cybersecurity breach, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged a former Equifax executive with committing securities fraud by engaging in insider trading and dumping his stock before the credit reporting agency went public with a massive data breach.

WASHINGTON – Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) this week cosponsored the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Full Funding Act to ensure Congress’s commitment to fully fund the IDEA. In 1975, Congress passed IDEA to ensure that every child with a disability has access to educational opportunity. This legislation was a historic step forward, but since its passage Congress has failed to provide the funding promised under this bill.

Shaheen, Hassan & Kuster Announce $10 Million in Federal Funds for I-89 Infrastructure Project

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), announced that the Department of Transportation has awarded a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NH DOT) and its partners in Vermont for the Interstate-89 (I-89) Lebanon-Hartford Bridge Project. The federal grant is for approximately $10 million and will help rehabilitate two regionally significant interstate bridges that support I-89 and cross the Connecticut River, connecting Vermont and New Hampshire.

WASHINGTON – In response to calls from Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Maggie Hassan, and 17 other colleagues, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) announced that it will review the Trump Administration’s response to the opioid crisis. The Senators’ request for the GAO investigation followed reports that the Trump Administration has taken little substantive action to step up efforts to combat the opioid crisis since the President declared it a public health emergency.
