With Shortages Worsening, NH Delegation Again Calls for Federal Agencies to Deliver Urgently Needed PPE & Medical Supplies to NH

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) again raised the alarm on the urgent need for the Trump administration to deliver medical supplies to New Hampshire, including personal protective equipment (PPE). In a letter to Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Peter Gaynor, the delegation requested rapid assistance to ensure New Hampshire health care providers have the supplies needed to address the surge of coronavirus cases the state is experiencing. The letter reflects concerns that the delegation has heard from New Hampshire health care providers and first responders who need more supplies and need more information from federal agencies on supply availability in order to plan actions to meet the growing caseload of coronavirus cases in the state.

NH Delegation Urges Administration to Address Granite State Small Business Concerns With Implementation of New COVID-19 Assistance Programs

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) urged Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Jovita Carranza and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to address New Hampshire small business concerns about the implementation of the financial assistance programs that were recently passed into law as part of the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. In their letter, the delegation highlights problems that small business owners are experiencing with the new emergency grant program operated through the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program and the new Paycheck Protection Program.

Shaheen, Hassan to HHS: Reopen The ACA Marketplace, Allow More Americans to Get Health Insurance During COVID-19 Pandemic

(Washington, DC)—U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan, along with 26 Senate Democrats on Tuesday, urged the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to reopen the Affordable Care Act’s online marketplace to allow more un- and under-insured Americans to get health insurance as they face potential health issues related to COVID-19. In a letter to the Secretary Alex Azar, the Senators urged HHS to allow Americans to enroll through a unique Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that should last throughout the duration of the pandemic in an effort to ensure comprehensive coverage for families and communities to protect themselves from COVID-related illness. The letter was led by Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI).

Senator Hassan Leads Bipartisan Group of Former Governors Calling for Flexibility in State Stabilization Funding

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) led Mike Rounds (R-SD), Angus King (I-ME), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) – all who formerly served as governors – in calling on Vice President Mike Pence to work with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to issue guidance to states on how they can use funding from the CARES Act to address budget shortfalls. NH Delegation Announces $11.7 Million From New COVID-19 Law to Help NH’s Vulnerable Homeless Population & Provide Support to Community Health Facilities, Food Banks and Other Community Services

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a negotiator of the recent COVID-19 economic response bill, and Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) announced today that New Hampshire is set to receive $11.7 million in additional funding to assist New Hampshire’s vulnerable homeless population and to address other local needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding comes from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which was recently passed by Congress and signed into law last week. Funds in this announcement come in addition to the $1.25 billion in aid that the new law provides to compensate New Hampshire for COVID-19 response efforts and the $147 million for schools, transit, law enforcement, child care, low-income heating and other needs that the Delegation announced on Tuesday to help the state through this crisis. The funds announced today will be administered through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program and the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program, and can be used to expand community health facilities, child care centers, food banks and senior services, as well as supporting eviction prevention, rental deposit assistance and homelessness prevention programs.
