Shaheen and Hassan Announce $350,000 Grant for Nashua Domestic and Sexual Violence Support Services

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced that the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women has awarded a $350,000 Transitional Housing Assistance Grant to the Bridges Domestic & Sexual Violence Support Services. The Transitional Housing Assistance Program provides aid to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking who are homeless, or in need of transitional housing or other housing assistance.

Shaheen, Hassan Introduce Amendment to Protect DACA and Undocumented Military Recruits from Discharge Due to Immigration Status

(Washington, DC)—U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), who is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) joined eight of their Democratic colleagues in filing an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to protect Dreamers and other undocumented military recruits from deportation. The amendment requires recruits in the Military Accessions Vital to National Interest (MAVNI) program to remain in the Armed Forces until the completion of background checks and security screenings. The MAVNI program allows immigrants with skills deemed vital to American national interest to enlist in the Armed Forces.

Shaheen & Hassan Demand Action and Answers on Opioid Crisis since Trump Administration Announcement of Intent to Declare National Emergency

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) joined eight of their colleagues in calling on President Donald Trump to take immediate action on the opioid crisis and answer specific questions about the President’s announcement that he would declare the epidemic a national emergency. In July, the Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis, created by President Trump, provided a number of recommendations to help address the opioid crisis, including declaring a national emergency. Unfortunately, President Trump has yet to act on any of the Commission’s recommendations. In the letter sent today to the White House, the Senators ask how the administration is evaluating the emergency declaration recommendation and the steps it will take to end the opioid use disorder and overdose crisis.
