NH Delegation Applauds $3 Million Award to Help Expand the Wood Production Industry in New England
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02), applauded the announcement that the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities, Inc. and the Northern Forest Center in Concord, will receive $3 million through an award provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce to bolster wood product markets in New England. This federal funding will be allocated through the Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) in coordination with the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC). This announcement follows efforts from Senator Shaheen who, as lead Democrat on the Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations Subcommittee, included language to appropriate federal resources that provide support for communities impacted by forest product closures.

Senate Passes Shaheen, Hassan Bipartisan Resolution Designating Sept. 30th – Oct. 6th National Community Policing Week
(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced the passage of their Senate Resolution designating September 30th through October 6th as “National Community Policing Week.” Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) also sponsored the legislation. The bipartisan resolution recognizes the service and sacrifice of the law enforcement community, and underscores the importance of community policing, which forges bonds between police officers and community members. Shaheen, Hassan & Kuster Announce $950K to Combat the Opioid Epidemic in Northern New Hampshire
(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced $950,000 in federal grants to the North Country Health Consortium from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). These grants include $200,000 from the Rural Communities Opioid Response Planning Program and $250,000 per year for each of the next three years from the Rural Opioid Health Program, and will fund efforts to combat substance misuse and the opioid epidemic in Northern New Hampshire.

Senator Hassan Statement on Bipartisan Opioid Legislation Agreement
WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today following an announced agreement between the House of Representatives and Senate on major bipartisan legislation to combat the deadly opioid epidemic in New Hampshire and across the country. The legislation, now known as the Substance Use Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act (SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act), includes key measures that Senator Hassan has championed to strengthen prevention, treatment, recovery, and law enforcement efforts. This bipartisan, bicameral agreement will now allow the final legislation to swiftly move through both chambers for a vote and then to the President’s desk for signature.

Senate Homeland Security Committee Votes to Approve Bipartisan Hassan-Portman Bill to Bolster Cybersecurity
WASHINGTON – The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee today voted to approve the bipartisan DHS Cyber Incident Response Teams Act, introduced by Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Rob Portman (R-OH) to bolster cybersecurity. The legislation requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to make permanent the “cyber hunt” and “cyber incident response” teams that help prevent cyberattacks on federal agencies, critical infrastructure, and the private sector, as well as help mitigate the impact of such attacks when they occur. Additionally, the Committee voted to approve the bipartisan Federal Rotational Cyber Workforce Program Act of 2018 that Senator Hassan cosponsored, which establishes a federal rotational cyber workforce called the Federal Rotational Cyber Workforce Program (FRCWP).

Shea-Porter, Shaheen, Hassan, and Craig Applaud Nearly $1 million in DOT Funding for Manchester Transit Authority
MANCHESTER, NH— Today, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01), Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan, and Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig applauded a grant of $934,000 from the US Department of Transportation to help finance the replacement of aging buses in Manchester. Since 2012, Manchester has been replacing buses that were purchased between 2004 and 2008 and are nearing the end of their lifespan. With the help of federal funds, the entire fleet is expected to be replaced by 2020.

Senators Markey, Warren, Shaheen and Hassan Introduce Legislation to Protect Nashua River and its Tributaries
Washington (September 20, 2018) – Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) introduced a legislation (S.3468) to designate portions of the Nashua, Squannacook, and Nissitissit Rivers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire as scenic rivers under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. This legislation is a companion to a bill introduced by Rep. Niki Tsongas (MA-03) and Rep. Ann Kuster (NH-02) in the House of Representatives (H.R.6825). The Senate legislation would create a locally appointed advisory committee that works with state and federal agencies to protect values intrinsic to the river and directs the rivers to be managed in accordance with the Nashua, Squannacook, and Nissitissit Rivers Stewardship Plan, while preserving existing uses. It follows up on the recommendations of a study commissioned by Congress in 2014 that assessed the potential inclusion of these rivers in the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System.
