WASHINGTON Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) joined with a bipartisan group of their colleagues to call for a full investigation into the sale of nearly $2 million in Equifax securities held by high-level Equifax executives shortly after the company learned of a massive cybersecurity breach. The Senators asked the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate the stock sale.

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Maggie Hassan participated in a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee roundtable discussion on opioid sales and marketing, where she highlighted the New Hampshire Department of Justice investigation into the marketing practices of Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin and other opioid products, and the civil lawsuit filed by the New Hampshire DOJ last month as a result of that investigation. The roundtable follows a new report from Ranking Member Claire McCaskill (D-MO) scrutinizing the sales and marketing practices of opioid maker Insys Therapeutics.

Shaheen & Hassan Demand Action and Answers on Opioid Crisis since Trump Administration Announcement of Intent to Declare National Emergency

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) joined eight of their colleagues in calling on President Donald Trump to take immediate action on the opioid crisis and answer specific questions about the President’s announcement that he would declare the epidemic a national emergency. In July, the Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis, created by President Trump, provided a number of recommendations to help address the opioid crisis, including declaring a national emergency. Unfortunately, President Trump has yet to act on any of the Commission’s recommendations. In the letter sent today to the White House, the Senators ask how the administration is evaluating the emergency declaration recommendation and the steps it will take to end the opioid use disorder and overdose crisis.

WASHINGTON – Today, Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Cory Gardner (R-CO) introduced the bipartisan Connected Government Act to expand access to government services and information by requiring all new federal websites to be mobile-friendly. Given that low-income Americans rely on mobile broadband – as opposed to in-home broadband – at higher rates, the bipartisan bill would expand the reach of government services and information for lower income households.
