Hassan Presses Reps from Social Media Platforms about Importance of Reporting Violent Extremists

Senator Maggie Hassan pressed representatives from Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube about how social media companies can be more proactive in reporting violent extremists on their platforms. During a Commerce, Science, and Transportation hearing, Senator Hassan specifically highlighted the Department of Homeland Security’s “See Something, Say Something” campaign encouraging people to alert authorities to suspicious behavior, and questioned the witnesses about their companies’ support for that campaign.
