NBC Early Today: FTC Will Investigate Loot Boxes

In case you missed it, Senator Maggie Hassan participated in Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation subcommittee hearing this week, where she received a commitment from FTC Chairman Joseph Simons and all of the FTC commissioners that they will investigate “loot boxes” in video games, which allow for in-game purchases and surprise winnings that can encourage gambling-like behavior in children. The Senator urged the Commission to ensure that children are being adequately protected, and to educate parents about the potential negative impacts of these games.
