Senator Hassan Statement on Sanctions Against Saudi Arabia

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement today in response to the U.S. Department of Treasury’s announcement that it has imposed sanctions on 17 Saudi Arabian officials over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi:

“The Administration’s tepid response so far to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi has been extremely concerning, and I welcome these sanctions as a first step to holding Saudi Arabia accountable for this vicious murder and cover-up attempt. However, there must be no mistaking that America must do far more to punish those responsible and to send a clear message to the Saudis – and the entire world – that such actions will not be tolerated. I will work with my colleagues to thoroughly evaluate additional steps that can be taken, including exploring more sanctions, re-evaluating American aid to Saudi Arabia, and pushing the Trump Administration to use its leverage to change Saudi Arabia's behavior.”
