Senator Hassan Leads Bipartisan, Bicameral Effort to Strengthen VA Solid Start Program that Helps New Veterans During Transition to Civilian Life

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) is leading a bipartisan, bicameral effort to strengthen the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Solid Start program, which aims to contact every veteran multiple times by phone in the first year after they leave active duty to check in and help connect them to VA programs and benefits. Senator Hassan, along with Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and Representatives Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), Jack Bergman (R-MI), and David Joyce (R-OH), are requesting a non-partisan Government Accountability Office assessment of the Solid Start program and how it could be strengthened.

Senator Hassan, Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Prevent Goods Made with Forced Uyghur Labor From Entering United States

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) joined a bipartisan group of her Senate colleagues in reintroducing the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. This bipartisan bill will help ensure that goods made with Uyghur forced labor in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) do not enter the United States. Earlier this year, the State Department issued a determination that the Chinese Communist Party is committing crimes against humanity and genocide against Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen joined their colleagues in reintroducing the Paycheck Fairness Act, legislation that would help eliminate the gender wage gap and guarantee that women can challenge pay discrimination and hold employers accountable. Senator Hassan Continues Her Efforts to Help Address Delays in Veterans’ Records & Benefits

WASHINGTON – Building on her previous efforts to help ensure that veterans receive their Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits in a timely fashion, U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) is urging the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC), which maintains the personnel, health, and medical records of millions of veterans, to immediately use the $50 million included in the December COVID-19 relief and government funding package to address its backlog of veterans’ record requests. Many veterans and their families need documentation through the NPRC in order to get the benefits that they are entitled to.
