WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan today voted to approve the final version of a bipartisan appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2019 that provides funding for critical New Hampshire priorities, including combating the opioid crisis, Veterans Affairs, military construction, energy and water infrastructure, and more. After years of resorting to continuing resolutions, this is the first time in more than 10 years that the Senate has followed the regular appropriations process, sending more than one appropriations bill to the President’s desk before the end of the fiscal year.

NH Delegation Announces $2.1M in Grants for Fire Safety
(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced $2.1 million in Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. These grants include $700,566 to Londonderry, $735,612 to Windham and $642,964 to Hudson. SAFER grants strengthen communities’ ability to respond to fire and fire-related hazards, and this funding will allow Londonderry, Windham and Hudson to hire additional firefighters and maintain 24-hour fire department staffing to ensure adequate fire safety protection.

WASHINGTON – Senator Maggie Hassan today participated in a Senate Commerce Committee hearing where she pressed Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Administrator David Pekoske about the Trump Administration and TSA’s continued efforts to eliminate critical airport security programs, such as Visible Intermodal Protection and Response (VIPER) teams and Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) Reimbursements grants. Senator Hassan also confronted the witness regarding reports that the TSA was considering eliminating screenings for 150 smaller airports, leaving those airports and flights vulnerable to threats.

NH Delegation Announces $14.3M in Grants for Urban Community Development in New Hampshire
(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced $14,333,057 in grants for urban community development and affordable housing in New Hampshire from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These grants include an $8,849,833 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), a $3,879,488 HOME Grant, an $870,215 Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and a $733,521 Housing Opportunities for Persons with Aids (HOPWA) Grant. These grants are an increase of nearly $1.7 million from the previous year. The grants will support efforts to expand affordable housing throughout New Hampshire, particularly for people experiencing a housing crisis or homelessness, and expand economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate income individuals.
