Senators Hassan, Gardner Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Expand Mobile Access to Government Websites

WASHINGTON – Today, Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Cory Gardner (R-CO) introduced the bipartisan Connected Government Act to expand access to government services and information by requiring all new federal websites to be mobile-friendly. Given that low-income Americans rely on mobile broadband – as opposed to in-home broadband – at higher rates, the bipartisan bill would expand the reach of government services and information for lower income households. The legislation would also support the 80 percent of Americans who experience disabilities who use wireless technology every day.

NH Delegation Calls for Community Update on Water Contamination

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), along with Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH), sent a letter to the United States Air Force this week, requesting a community update on efforts to treat water supplies contaminated with perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) at Pease International Tradeport, the former Pease Air Force Base. The letter also asks for specific responses to concerns raised by Members of the New Hampshire State Legislature. Thousands of New Hampshire families were exposed to the contaminated water supply at Haven well.

Shaheen, Hassan, Kuster, Shea-Porter, Bipartisan Group of New England Members Urge USDA to Provide Relief to Dairy Farmers

(Washington, DC) – As dairy farmers across New England continue to struggle with historically low milk prices, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Senator Maggie Hassan, Congresswoman Annie Kuster, and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter joined a bipartisan, bicameral group of members of Congress on Wednesday in urging the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to use its authority to provide dairy farmers with the relief and new insurance they desperately need. In a letter to Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, the members of Congress emphasized that safety net programs for dairy farmers, such as the Margin Protection Program (MPP), have failed to provide farmers with adequate support. Led in the House by Congresswoman Kuster, the letter urged the Agriculture Department to make milk an eligible commodity under the Federal Crop Insurance Program – which successfully insures farmers across the country for hundreds of different kinds of crops – and to work with USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) to develop new insurance products for dairy producers.

WASHINGTON – Today, Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) announced that the New Hampshire Department of Education has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to improve early interventions and education for students who experience disabilities. The New Hampshire Department of Education will receive $770,000.00, and the grant is anticipated to be for a total of five years. This grant program is authorized under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to assist states in providing professional development to improve results for students who experience disabilities.
